We were completely unaware of the superiority of the Giant Josta until we stumbled upon a renowned currant collector who enlightened us about its unmatched qualities. We were amazed to learn that the Giant Josta is far superior to the standard black jostaberry that we were familiar with. It is believed to have a better berry and bigger fruit clusters. We are confident that it will live up to the hype surrounding it.
It is early to leaf out each spring, thornless and easy-to-grow; resistant to both powdery mildew and white pine blister rust. It fruits on older wood, so keep the many young shoots on established branches cut short once the bush gets to the size and shape you prefer. Productive in both sun and shade, it will perform better with some afternoon shade in hotter summer areas. Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3.
